The Jigawa State office of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has successfully completed the training of 81 People Living With Disability (PWDs), equipping them with various skills to become self-reliant.
The State Coordinator of the Jigawa State National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Alhaji Hamza Garba, disclosed this during the graduation ceremony and the handover of working tools to participants of the Community-Based Empowerment Training (CBET) at the Federal Secretariat in Dutse. He stated that the beneficiaries were among those who underwent three months of vocational skills training.
“As you are witnessing now, these are seven individuals who have successfully completed training in tailoring and fashion design and have been selected to be resettled to start their businesses,” he said.
He added, “The seven beneficiaries are entitled to working materials and cash totalling ₦309,000 each, amounting to ₦2.1 million.”
Commenting further on the People Living With Disability (PWDs), the Coordinator said, “The programme is part of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, conducted through the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) and the National Commission for People Living With Disabilities. It focuses on in-demand skills across vocational training.”
Alhaji Hamza Garba explained that “The National Commission for People Living With Disability provided the list of 81 participants to our office (NDE). We contacted their state association chairman to verify the list, and they were then posted to different training centres to acquire necessary skills over a three-month period.”
He stated that “All participants are entitled to a resettlement package, provided in collaboration with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs under the N-Power project.”
The Coordinator emphasised that the skills acquired by PWDs include welding, carpentry, GMS repairs, and metal fabrication.
According to him, “This initiative has culminated in the launch of the resettlement programme for the trained beneficiaries. It aims to empower participants to become not only self-employed but also employers of labour.”
Alhaji Hamza Garba noted that “The package is a revolving loan to be repaid in instalments, enabling others to benefit from the scheme.”
“I wish to thank the National Commission for People Living With Disabilities for their support in the mobilisation and management of persons with disabilities across Nigeria who participated in the programme,” he concluded.
