THE Niger Delta People Confederation has commended the House of Representatives for directing the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, to immediately disband the three-man interim committee he inaugurated to pilot the affairs of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In a statement issued on Monday in Benin Citry and signed by the coordinator general, Mr. Iyamu Osaro and the secretary general, Mr. Ovie Kenneth, the duo called on President Muhammadu Buhari to direct the new NDDC board members to swing into action and commence rapid infrastructural and human development of the resource rich but poor region.
It will be recalled that the lawmakers had resolved to halt further consideration of the 2020 budget of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs unless the minister rescinds his decision on the controversial interim committee.
The lawmakers also urged the Senate to stop further action on the ministry’s budget over the “illegal appointment”.

The group’s statement said: “We wish to unequivocally state that we are in support of the position of the House of Representatives urging the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs to immediately dissolve his illegal three-man interim committee otherwise the House and the Senate will not hesitate to discontinue with the 2020 Appropriation and budget process of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs.
“We want to urge President Buhari to use his power to direct the new NDDC board members to immediately take charge of NDDC with a view to commencing rapid infrastructural and human development in the resource rich but poor region.”
