About 63,000 litres of locally refined diesel and other crude oil products were last weekend, destroyed at Ugbegungun, Escravos in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Delta State Command.
The destruction of the substandard illegal products was led by the Delta State Commandant of NSCDC, Beatrice Irabor.
There was, however, no suspect arrested during the operation as the suspects behind the illegal refining site at Ugbegungun were said to have bolted away on sighting the NDDC Armed Squad.
Meanwhile, Commandant Irabor has admonished Deltans to desist from illegal bunkering, saying the phenomenon was sabotaging the nation’s economy as well as destroying the ecosystem.
Commandant Irabor warned residents of coastal areas that the command would not hesitate to destroy any illegal refining site discovered in their domains.
She noted that Delta State was no longer a safe haven for oil saboteurs, asking them to seek legitimate alternatives of livelihood.
