NBUN seeks govt’s support, calls for more refrigerated vans

Published by

The National Butchers Union of Nigeria (NBUN), South-West Zone, has appealed to the federal and state governments to provide financial assistance and critical infrastructure support to enhance the operations of the meat industry across the region.

The appeal was made at the union’s quarterly meeting, held at the Butchers House in Ibadan, Oyo State, where members from the South-West states, including Kwara, deliberated on issues affecting the livestock and meat business.

The union specifically called on governments in the region to support its activities financially and urged the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Livestock Development, to provide additional refrigerated meat vans to improve meat preservation and distribution.

Presenting a report on the union’s activities nationwide, Comrade Lateef Apata expressed concern over the country’s security challenges and called on the government to intensify efforts to secure the release of kidnapped students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

He said the continued insecurity in parts of the country poses serious challenges to communities and businesses, advocating decisive action by security agencies and relevant authorities.

Responding to issues raised by members, the national deputy president of the union, Alhaji Biliamin Eleshinmeta, urged members to fulfil their obligations to the union and government, noting that compliance will strengthen the union’s position in seeking support and benefits from relevant authorities.

He also advised butchers and livestock traders to conduct their businesses responsibly and avoid all forms of violence. Eleshinmeta advocated participation of women in the affairs of the union across the South-West and Kwara State, describing them as key stakeholders capable of contributing significantly to its growth and development.

The deputy president encouraged young people to become actively in the union’s activities, as they represent the future leadership of the organisation and the livestock industry.

Meanwhile, the national president of the union, Chief Osamede John Adun, represented by the national Public Relations Officer, Dr. Iyi Edoagbaire, commended members of the South-West Zone for their unity, loyalty and support.

He urged them to sustain the spirit of cooperation and harmony, saying that collective commitment and solidarity will make the organisation achieve greater success and advance the interests of its members nationwide.
