NASD aligns shareholders, board on long-term strategy

Published by
NASD Plc has convened a high-level stakeholder retreat in Lagos, bringing together its major shareholders, board members and executive management in a move aimed at reinforcing the Exchange’s long-term strategic direction, governance framework and market relevance.
The retreat provided a closed-door platform for key institutional stakeholders to engage in in-depth discussions on NASD’s evolving role within Nigeria’s capital market ecosystem, particularly its growing influence in the over-the-counter (OTC) segment.
According to the Exchange, the engagement was designed to align shareholders and management around strategic priorities critical to deepening institutional strength, strengthening governance discipline and sustaining long-term value creation. Discussions focused on the need for closer shareholder collaboration, disciplined execution of strategy and the adoption of equitable governance practices as pillars for boosting investor confidence.
Participants also examined how NASD can navigate increasing market complexity while adapting to regulatory and macroeconomic shifts. The Exchange noted that conversations centred on ensuring its operations continue to reflect global best practices, while remaining responsive to the specific needs of Nigeria’s alternative securities market.
NASD emphasised that the retreat underscored the importance of close alignment between shareholders, the Board and executive leadership in shaping the Exchange’s next phase of growth. By encouraging open dialogue and shared strategic intent, the session reaffirmed NASD’s commitment to transparency, institutional resilience and leadership within the capital market.
The engagement concluded with a group session that highlighted the depth of experience and governance oversight guiding NASD’s strategic outlook, as well as the collective responsibility of stakeholders in strengthening its contribution to Nigeria’s financial market architecture.
The retreat comes on the back of a strong 2025 performance by NASD, with the Exchange recording a surge in listings, deeper market activity and a sharp expansion in market value. The gains were driven largely by its market diversification strategy, which has continued to position NASD as a critical platform for alternative securities and non-traditional listings in Nigeria’s capital market
