NANS Lagos to host security summit, intercampus debate

The Lagos State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, is set to host a pivotal security summit and intercampus debate that will bring students from various higher institutions under one roof.

The programme is scheduled for next Wednesday at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) Ikorodu Campus.

A statement by Comr. Alimi Lekan Idris, the convener and who is also the chairman of NANS Lagos, said the summit would feature CP Fayoade Adegoke, the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, as the keynote speaker.

The event will also bring together notable figures from the government and security sectors, including the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Hon. Tolani Sule, who will be speaking from the government’s perspective on student safety.

“Also in attendance will be Hon. Kappo Samuel, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Student Union Affairs, and Hon. Deola Adewunmi, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tertiary Education.

“The Vice-Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Prof. Olumuyiwa Odusanya, will play host to this significant gathering.

“The Security Summit and Intercampus Debate aim to address the pressing security challenges faced by students in Lagos State’s tertiary institutions. With insights from top security experts and government officials, the event is expected to yield actionable strategies to enhance campus safety,” he said.

The NANS Lagos Chairman emphasised the importance of the event, stating, “In light of the security challenges faced by students, this summit is a timely intervention. We are committed to working with all relevant stakeholders to ensure the safety and well-being of our students.

“The event will also feature an intercampus debate, providing a platform for students to showcase their intellectual abilities and engage in discussions on critical issues affecting their academic and social lives.

“This summit is open to students, academic staff, security personnel, and members of the general public. It is set to be a pivotal moment in the ongoing efforts to enhance security within Lagos State’s tertiary institutions.
