NOT less than 25 volunteer staff of the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), an agency under the presidency are currently participating in a 2-day workshop capacity building on land development.
According to the consultant handling the project, Dr Idowu Olugbenga Adewumi, NALDA is a body that was established in 1992 but went into extinction in the year 2000. He noted that: “The present administration in the country has revived the agency in order to carry out its mandate of developing rural communities through agriculture and to make agriculture a business and source of wealth creation for the country.”
He stated further that: “As the consultant, what we are trying to do is to train the volunteers and tell them the modern ways of doing agriculture. Of course, it is important for people to know that NALDA is back on its feet again, it was formally revived in January 6, 2020, and to us now, it is a baby. We want to make sure that people have access to land, we want to also ensure youth participation and active involvement in agriculture.
“I can tell you sincerely like in the paper which I delivered today that if modern technology is not involved in the agricultural process, youth would not get involved. So, NALDA is trying to make sure that we have appropriate cost-effective mechanisation of agriculture, that is, a model that can work.”
The workshop is expected to end today after which the volunteers drawn from the states of the South-West including Kwara state, would return to their various states to make use of the knowledge acquired.
