The United States Consulate General to Nigeria, mr John Bray, has charged entertainers, especially those in the music industry to galvanise their lyrical muses ahead of the 2019 General Election exercises. This is as he adjudged that music will be a strong weapon for the peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections.

Being the sixth quadrennial elections since the end of military rule in 1999, the 2019 general elections will be held in Nigeria on 16 February to elect the President, governors and members of National Assembly in a secret ballot system.

Speaking during a visit of America’s electronic dance music group, Major Lazer, to Lagos, Nigeria, Bray used a greater part of his opening remark to admonish Nigerian musicians  to commit to pacific strategies in the use of their talents in the coming months.

“Tonight, we are all here for Major Lazer. Music is the weapon, peace is the mission. As the 2019 general election draws close, I encourage you all to make a commitment to a non-violent and peaceful democratic process,” Bray, who was accompanied on stage by leading Nigerian artistes namely Sound Sultan and Korede Bello,  remarked just before Major Lazer began their performance.

Hosted by the Cultural Affairs Office at the U.S. Consulate General in Lagos in collaboration with U-Live Africa on Friday night, the convert dubbed  the Major Lazer SoundSystem Concert was attended by hundreds of electronic music lovers in Nigeria.

Major Lazer, the American electronic dance music group, comprising Diplo, Jillionaire, and Walshy Fire, were in Nigeria as part of a broader Africa tour which has taken them to South Africa, Malawi, Kenya and Uganda.

It was a night to remember for the hundreds of fans who thronged the Hard Rock Beach as the electronic dance music trio thrilled the audience with a blend of local and international tunes.

Speaking further, Bray said that “Major Lazers visit to Nigeria underscores the strong U.S.-Nigeria cultural and people-to-people ties.”

The electronic dance music group has recently dropped three singles featuring three popular Nigerian acts namely,  Mr. Eazi,  Kizz Daniel and Burna Boy.
