Popular Nigerian actress and filmmaker Mercy Aigbe has publicly apologised to her daughter Michelle for her harsh upbringing.
During the premiere of her film “My Mother Is a Witch,” Aigbe shared that she recently sent Michelle an apology text after reflecting on her parenting style as a single mother.
Aigbe acknowledged that her parenting approach was harsh, stating, “Yes, it was harsh, I can’t lie. But I raised a vessel for God.” She revealed that Michelle had reminded her of a traumatic childhood incident where she had hit a bucket on her head, which made Aigbe realize the emotional impact of her actions.
“I’ve been a single mother before I got married again. For years, I was a single mom to Michelle,” Aigbe said. “Three days ago, I had to send her an apology text for the harsh upbringing I gave her. I said, ‘I’m so sorry. You might think the upbringing I gave you was so hard.’”
Aigbe’s apology comes after Michelle recalled the incident and told her mother, “Mommy, I’m traumatised. I remember you hit a bucket on my head one day.” This moment made Aigbe realise the need to address the pain her daughter experienced and to make amends.
