Meet ESKU’s new pro-chancellor, Adesina

THE Visitor to the Ekiti State University, Governor Peter Ayodele Fayose, has appointed a frontline lawyer, Mr. Dele Adesina, SAN, as the new pro-chancellor and chairman of the governing council of the university.

His appointment followed the resignation of the former pro-chancellor, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye.

Mr Adesina hails from Ilawe-Ekiti, in Ekiti South West Local Government area of Ekiti State. He attended the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University), Ile-Ife between 1978 and 1981, where he obtained the Bachelor of Law degree (LLB Hons.). He was called to Bar and enrolled as a solicitor and advocate of the Supreme Court of Nigeria in July 1982.

Adesina was elevated into the Inner Bar as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in October, 2007. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCI Arb).

He was a State Counsel in the Ondo State Ministry of Justice (1983), and an Associate Solicitor at Messrs Doja Adewopo & Co (1987-1992).

The new EKSU pro-chancellor is a Principal Partner, Messrs Dele Adesina Citygate Chambers, Lagos, till date.

Mr Adesina has served the Nigerian Bar Association in various capacities such as Life Member of the Body of Benchers, the highest regulatory body of the legal profession, and member Distinguished Body of Benchers (March, 2000).

He was a member of the governing council, Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, and had been, at different occasions, chairman of the NBA, Ikeja Branch, publicity secretary and the general secretary.

A life member of the National Executive Committee, Nigerian Bar Association, since 2002, Mr Adesina is a member of the Judicial Service Commission of Ekiti State, and has been a member of the International Bar Association since 1989.

Adesina is a member of the governing council, Board of Regents at the Covenant University, Canaan Land, Otta; a member of the Christian Lawyers Association of Nigeria (CLASFON), and of the executive council of the Winners Business Fellowship, Faith Tabernacle, Canaan Land, Otta, Ogun State, among others.

He has has authored several books, including ‘Burning Issues in the 1999 Constitution’, Proceedings under Special Tribunals: A Critique of Decrees Jurisdiction and Practice and Procedure of Specialized Tribunal’ and ‘The Force of Justice; and has presented over 42 researched and specialized papers at several fora.
