Marketing officer, woman in court for allegedly obtaining N4.47m under false pretences

Two persons, Simeon Demehin, 26; and Onome Ikpeku, 34; were on Monday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining N4.472 million under false pretences.

The defendants, Demehin (male) a marketing officer, residing at Ilasan Housing Estate, Lekki and Ikpeku (female), residing at Iba Town, Lagos, are being tried for conspiracy, obtaining by false pretences and stealing.

The Prosecutor, W/Sgt. Chekube Okeh told the court that the offences were committed in May 2019 at 52, Ijaiye Road, Ogba, Lagos.

Okeh alleged that the defendants introduced a business opportunity to the complainant, Mr Amos Fadele, to invest in their company, Lone Western Ltd., a finance house.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287, 314 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O Akinde, admitted the defendants to bail of N1 million each with two sureties in like sum.

Akinde, however, adjourned the case to March 3 for mention.
