Maritme University to take off in 2017 – FG

IN spite of the controversy surrounding the location of the proposed Nigerian Maritime University, the Federal Government has assured that the specialise institution otherwise known as Admiralty University, will take off by the next academic year, September, 2017.

Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu who gave this indication on Tuesday in Abuja, said government has resolved that the university would take off with two campuses at Ibusa and Sapele, all in Delta State.

Adamu spoke when he received the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibo Ekwe-Ibas, on courtesy visit, saying the University would be licence to commence full academic activities next year.

He reiterated his ministry’s support to ensure that the university is licensed to takeoff without further delay, explaining that the Maritime University will provide the platform for the growth and development of the country’s Maritime sector.

He assured that all obstacles militating against the licensing of the Maritime University were being addressed.

Speaking earlier, the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibo Ekwe-Ibas told the Minister that the foundation for the University is fully in place, with massive infrastructural facilities at various institutions and locations, with different courses being run at such institutions, which stand ready for incorporation into the Maritime University.

Vice Admiral Ibok explained that apart from existing institutions under the Navy, which are running various courses such as Aeronautical and Maritime Engineering, the Maritime University will also offer diverse courses in Arts, Humanities and Medical Sciences.
