A Kano State High Court has sentenced one, Aminu Inuwa, to death by hanging for killing his wife Safara’u Mamman, with a knife to death.
Inuwa, whose age was not provided by the court was convicted on a count charge of culpable homicide.
The presiding judge, Justice Usman Na’abba, on Tuesday, held that the prosecution had proven his case beyond reasonable doubt and consequently sentenced the convict to death by hanging.
The prosecution counsel, Barrister Lamido Sorondinki, had informed the court that the convict committed the offence on April 2, 2019, at Gwazaye Quarters Dorayi Babba Kano, after having a misunderstanding with his wife.
He said: “In the process, the defendant silt her throat with a sharp kitchen knife to death and buried her in an uncompleted room in his house situated at Dorayi Babba Kano.”
According to the prosecutor who presented three witnesses to the court and six exhibits, the offence contravened section 221 (a) of the Penal Code.
It will also be recalled that after pleading not guilty to the charge, his defence counsel, Barrister Mustafa Idris, produced one witness before the court.
