A 24-year-old man, Michael Anibalusi, was on Wednesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two bottles of Hennessy drink worth N78,000.
The police charged Anibalusi, a staff of Shoprite with theft.
The Prosecution Counsel, Inspector Olusegun Oke, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on August 18 at ShopRite City Mall, Ikeja.
Oke alleged that the defendant was caught with two bottles of Hennessy drink and one empty carton by one of the security guards.
The prosecutor said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of how those items got to his possession.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Magistrate D. S. Odukoya admitted the defendant to bail of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Odukoya adjourned the case until October 11 for trial.
