No fewer than eight persons confirmed dead on Saturday morning in Osogbo, Osun state capital when the driver of a Volvo FL7 truck with registration number KMC 35 ZJ, lost control of the vehicle while climbing the popular November 27 Inter bridge in the town.
The accident which occurred around 1.20 am of the day as a result of overloading and over speeding of the vehicle driver while ascending the bridge, reportedly had 61 passengers on board with palm oil, kola nuts and other items planned to convey to the Northern part of the country for commercial purposes.
Out of the 61 passengers, 36 of them were injured while the dead amongst them had been taken to the custody of the head of the Hausa community in Osogbo for immediate burial.
Speaking on the incident, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Mrs Kudirat Ibrahim commiserated with the bereaved families of those who lost their lives in the disaster.
She however disclosed that the injured passengers had been taken to the state Teaching Hospital Complex and Asubiaro General Hospital, Osogbo, for proper medical attention.
The Sector Commander however charged road users to always avoid over speeding which could lead to untimely death.
