The co-founder of the logistic firm, Velocity NG, Mr Femi Wright, has explained why innovative, technology-driven logistic businesses are vital to Nigerian economy and how they can create jobs for the youths.
Wright made this known, on Wednesday, in Lagos, during an interactive session with some youths as regard creative ways of running a logistic business.
Speaking on how logistic firms are making life easy for Nigerians, Wright stated that in this digital age where online shopping is the order of the day, a reliable delivery service is essential to achieve customers’ satisfaction.
He explained that one of the ways innovative logistic firms make life easy and create jobs is through the use of apps and the internet.
In the course of the session, Wright used the Velocity NG App, as an example, to demonstrate how an ideal logistic app works, adding that, as a customer, the app is accessible and usable by anybody that needs to order a pickup or a delivery.
He added that within their short outing as a platform for one-stop shop for on-demand delivery and aggregating despatch riders, they have added value to Nigerians.
He stated that one of the objectives of their firm is to facilitate job creation. He further stated that the availability of the app and creating more stations in Abuja, and in Ogun and Oyo states will encourage the creation of several independent despatch riders.
“We are doing this in two phases. Phase one is to aggregate despatch riders/companies on one platform,” he said. “Phase two is to be a platform that digitally connects vendors to their customers.”
According to him, the requirements and who is qualified to register/apply for a logistic job and services are simple.
“At a minimum, you need a phone with an internet and a means of payment. Those that want to be despatch riders need to meet the minimum sign-up requirements before they can join the riders’ community.
“Also, companies with a fleet of despatch vehicles can increase their fleet, thereby providing jobs because there is a platform through which customers can easily reach them,” he said.
He noted that for them to reach more Nigerians and to create more jobs, they are exploring other innovative ways of adding value to the society.
