There was pandemonium in Iba community of Ifelodun Local Government Area of Osun State on Friday when lightning from a thunderstorm struck killed 19 cows belonging to herders.
Though details of the incident were still sketchy as of the time of filing this report, Tribune Online authoritatively gathered that the development occurred around 6.30 pm at Gaa Elesun.
The deafening sound from the thunder was said to have created fear in the sleepy community as people scampered to safety, while some individuals ran inside their houses.
Speaking on the incident during a telephone chat with our correspondent, the head of Fulanis resident in Iba, Mr Jimoh Jamiu said: “the terrible occurrence took place around 6.30 pm on Friday when we were trying to get the cows back into where they stay.”

According to him, “before the thunder struck, the cloud had formed in the sky with the anticipation that rain may fall. Suddenly, there was a big sound of thunder accompanied by lightning which struck the cows and they died.
“It was indeed a great loss to us in Iba community. We never expected that such natural occurrence could kill our cows after rearing the cattle for years,” Jamiu lamented.
Confirming the incident to our correspondent, the Eburu of Iba, Oba Adekunle Okunoye in a text message said, “we recorded a very sad incident at Iba. Lightning from thunderstorm struck some cows at Iba and 19 of the cows were killed. It is a great loss for our community.”
