THE Coordinating Director, Odo-Osi Local Government Area, Ekiti, Mr Akinola Adebayo, on Friday, appealed to youths in the area to acquire vocational skills that would empower them financially.
Adebayo, who made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ido-Osi, said that not every Nigerian youth should be in government or company employ.
He said that by acquiring vocational skills, Nigerian youths could become employers of labour in various fields.

“Most of the ‎problems facing youths in the community are caused by unemployment and lack of good parental counselling.
“I urge youths to engage in skills acquisition programmes such as fashion designing and tailoring, furniture making, ‎bead making, catering, Plaster of Paris (POP) making, and painting, among other lucrative handiwork,’’ the council boss said.
He, therefore, appealed to parents to create time to sensitise their children to the benefits of acquiring skills that would make them self-employed and financially independent.
‎The coordinating director assured the youth that the council ‎would take adequate steps to organise skills acquisition programmes with a view to empowering them in a way that they would not have to wait on the government for jobs.
