Ahead of 2023, former Lagos State Commissioner for Home Affairs, Dr Abdulhakeem Abdullateef aka Iyepe on Tuesday began a state-wide movement for the enlightenment of Lagosians to take their destiny in their hands by making their votes count, promising to offer leadership people would be proud of if voted in as next governor of Lagos.
Abdulhameed gave this promise while speaking at the launch of the group, tagged: “Official Declaration of Iyepe 2023”, saying the quality leadership he would offer Lagosians would be in line with his nickname as he would as a mere mortal who sees everybody as equal and as important ensure an environment that would bring about a new brand of politics, where opportunities for development and growth abound.
The former commissioner, who is former member, Lagos State House of Assembly, while noting that he was putting in place not a campaign outfit, but a movement as well as God’s project as he did not know how it came about, declared that enough is enough, urging Lagosians to come out and identify with it.

“This is not a political campaign platform, I am not campaigning. This is a movement to enlighten the people to take their destiny in their hands. “This is not my project, it is God’s project. I did not know how it came up. I received it as a message that will come to pass. People should come out and identify with it so that you can be proud that you were part of it,” said.
“We are going to be part of those that would make it happen and not those who will keep complaining and not participate. We are going to be part of efforts to make the beautiful result,” he added.
Abdulhameed, who is also former Amir Hajj of Lagos, while saying that he was not desperate realizing the ambition of becoming Lagos State governor, come 2023, asserted that he feared no foe, declaring that he ready to do what was right as flagbearer of a new programme.
“We are not desperate but we are ready. If you do not kill fear, fear will kill you. We are the flagbearers of the new programme. We are ready to do what is right,” the former commissioner said.
“We want to begin the movement in Lagos to spread the message to other parts of Nigeria, that enough is enough, that our votes must count.
“If we are going to have an orderly society, I beg all of you don’t leave me alone, join me in the movement.
“It is only where votes count that there will be development. The reason we are poor is because our votes do not count. If votes count, our leaders would be responsible, they will automatically be accountable. But in the absence of that, the result is what we are witnessing now, underdevelopment everywhere which is what has led to political apathy and that is what they want, but we won’t allow that,” he added.
