The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Kwara State chapter, says it is targeting 60 per cent of the electorate in the 2027 general elections as it prepares to commence a physical membership registration and revalidation exercise across the 16 local government areas of the state.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Tuesday, the state PDP chairman, Rt. Hon. Babatunde Mohammed, alongside other members of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, said the membership drive is a direct response to growing calls from the people of the state “who are eager to be part of the #RescueKwara Project — an effort to restore our state to the path of inclusive governance, purposeful leadership, and shared prosperity as we march towards 2027.”
Hon. Mohammed also said the registration exercise would give the main opposition party in Kwara State the opportunity to assess its strength and capacity ahead of the next general elections.

The state PDP chairman explained that the registration and revalidation exercise would be conducted at all 193 wards across the state, adding that it is designed to accommodate both fresh registrations for new members and revalidation for existing members seeking to update their status in the party register for the issuance of permanent membership cards.
“We are pleased to announce that the membership registration exercise will commence on Saturday, May 17, 2025. We, therefore, urge all our teeming supporters, admirers, and the general public to take advantage of this opportunity to join the only party that offers a clear vision, credible platform, and genuine promise to return Kwara State to an era where leadership served the people and prosperity was shared among all,” he said.
Hon. Mohammed further stated that every new entrant into the party is expected to present their Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) as a valid means of identification to register. However, those who do not have a PVC, for one reason or another, can also register pending the time the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) opens its PVC registration portal.
“At the end of this exercise, Kwarans in the diaspora who are unable to register physically will have the opportunity to do so via the registration portal on our website. In other words, for this initial stage, the online registration portal is open only for the physical registration and verification of members.”
Also speaking, the Director of Research and Data of the party, Mallam Razaq Kamil, described the exercise as a grassroots membership drive, emphasizing that membership is the pillar on which every political party stands. “In our great party, membership is primarily obtained at the ward level,” he said.
“This exercise we are embarking on is not just something we sat down and decided to do; it is in response to the clamour from the people of the state. We have new members joining the PDP, hence the need to ascertain the actual membership strength of the party. We are not the ones pushing this; it is the people of Kwara who want to be identified as members of the PDP and are yearning for a change from the current situation in the state.”
“Let it be clearly stated that while the registration structure is anchored at the ward level, it will enjoy active coordination at the local government, senatorial, and state levels to ensure effective monitoring and the success of the exercise.
“Our trained registration officers stationed at the various ward registration points will attend to all prospective and returning members.”
