As race for speakership position in the Kwara State House of Assembly (KWHA) hots up, an elders forum under the aegis of Kwara North Conscience (KNC), has canvassed for support of Hon. Muhammad Baba Salihu as new speaker.
Hon. Muhammad Baba Salihu is a member-elect from Okuta/Yashikira constituency in the Baruten Local government area of the state.
In a statement signed by the coordinator of the group, Alhaji Ibrahim Audu, in Moro local government area on Wednesday, the elders said that they would embark on advocacy visits to convince leadership of Kwara APC and other groups to get their support for the speakership position.
“The new Kwara State House of Assembly needs an articulate speaker with an independent mind who will not work in opposite direction with the state governor in order to drive genuine developmental projects that will better the lives of Kwarans.”

“Hon Muhammed Baba is that cool headed individual who is capable and has independent mindset to complement the governor-elect, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.”
“There’s no gain arguing the fairness in zoning speakership to Baruten owing to the fact that out of the two Federal Constituencies in Kwara North, the Edu/Moro/Patigi already occupies the office of the Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq campaign organization (AACO) Zonal DG who will form part of the incoming government. So in fairness Baruten/Kaiama stand a better chance to produce the speaker, while further analysis revealed that Kaiama has the senator and Ambassador. So, Baruten stand tall among others in the race for speaker,” he said.
The group also urged all APC stakeholders in the state to support Kwara North candidate for the speakership position.
