The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Kogi State chapter, on Wednesday gave the state government 12 days ultimatum to immediately reopen discussion on the implementation of the minimum wage in the state.
The workers came out in their hundreds as early as 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday and marched to the state assembly with placards carrying various inscriptions.
The state chairman of NLC, Comrade Onu Edoka, made the call when he led other workers to Kogi State House of Assembly and presented letter of their position to the Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole.
Edoka, who gave the ultimatum on behalf of the workers, also urged government to back all promotions made since its inception with cash.
He also called on the state government to stop payment of half salaries to local government workers in the state.
Edoka, flanked by the TUC counterpart, Comrade Ranti Ojo, and other leaders, said the National Assembly should not dare the workers by passing any anti workers bill, saying the said bill is against International Labour organisation convention.
While appealing to the National Assembly to put a stop to the bill forthwith, he said failure to do that will result in mass protests that will grind economic and political activities in the country.
Receiving the letter from the labour leaders on behalf of the speaker of the state assembly, the Clerk of the House, Mr Amoka Ibrahim, promised to deliver the letter to the appropriate quarters.
