Kogi West: Senator Karimi empowers women cooperative groups with N100m

The Chairman of the Senate Services Committee, Sen. Karimi Sunday, has empowered women cooperative groups in the Kogi-West Senatorial District with N100 million.

The funding is to assist them to kick-start and expand their small-scale businesses amidst the current hardship being faced by Nigerians.

Sen. Sunday said on Friday that up to 50 women cooperative groups had benefited from the gesture this week.

He explained that the empowerment gesture was a fulfillment of a promise he made to women in the district a couple of weeks back.

“This is a fulfillment of a promise. It will go a long way to cushion the effects of the current economic challenges that the people face, as the government makes efforts to improve the situation.

“It is to support their small businesses.

“More groups and associations will also be empowered as time progresses “, the lawmaker stated.

He also spoke on how a training programme was earlier organised for women in the three federal constituencies in the senatorial district to teach them about viable small-scale investments they could explore.

“A training programme was recently conducted for the women in each of the three federal constituencies in my district.

“This week, a sum of N100m naira has been paid to the cooperative group accounts,” he said.

Sen. Sunday, who was represented by his wife, Stellamari, during the exercise, advised the women to judiciously utilise the funds for profit and beat the temptation of spending it as “free money.”
