A group of over 300 former appointees between 2012 and 2016, under the administration of former governor Capt. Idris Wada has expressed their appreciation to Governor Yahaya Bello for what they described as a complete turnaround in several sectors of Kogi State.
They hinted that they have willingly and totally submitted to the leadership of the New Direction Governor.
The group also declared its total support for the candidate of the All Progressive Congress in the forthcoming November 11 polls, Alhaji Usman Ahmed Ododo, describing his detribalized personality as a good and endearing selling point.
Speaking on their behalf during a courtesy visit to the government house in Lokoja, the leader of the delegation and former Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Sadiq Ainoko, highlighted that it was pleasant to see that the first flyover in the state has been completed under the pragmatic and quality leadership of Governor Bello. He added that the project completion has improved the aesthetics of Lokoja.
He said, ‘The referral hospital at Okene, and of course the establishment of two citadels of learning; Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara (CUSTECH), and Kogi State University, Kabba, are also legacies that the people of Kogi State will cherish till eternity.
Mention must also be made of the completion of the Anyigba-Idah road and several other landmark projects of your New Direction government.’
Hon. Ainoko thanked the governor for approving the courtesy visit in record time, despite his tight schedule, asserting that the workaholic and historic Governor Bello has shown his love and magnanimity, which has endeared him to many hearts, including themselves.
The former Commissioner pointed out that one area the governor has also excelled is his penchant for human development, attesting that many people who never thought they could be appointed to positions of authority have found themselves in leadership roles in many government agencies, while some of their members have also benefited from this unique posture endowed on the governor by God.
The group similarly lauded the recognition of their Principal, Captain Idris Wada, as the First Leader of the state visited by the Governorship Candidate of the APC, Alhaji Usman Ododo, during his post-primary election ‘Kogi Agenda’s consultation, describing such a gesture as a display of maximum respect that gladdened their hearts.
They also expressed commitment and readiness to support Governor Bello’s drive towards achieving a Kogi state of everyone’s dreams.
In his address to the visitors, Governor Bello said that out of great respect for his predecessors, when he assumed office, unlike some other state governors who made it a duty to witch-hunt and ridicule past leaders, he refused to follow in that direction despite being on different political platforms.
He also attested that he has never had either open or silent misunderstandings with any of his predecessors, out of the mutual respect that exists among them.
Governor Bello mentioned that the delegation of appointees of former Governor Wada was neither forced nor compelled to make this progressive move, but rather, of their volition, they decided that this great state needed peace and unity to forge ahead into a greater future.
He said, ‘The more we are united, the greater opportunity we have at maximizing our resources; hence, we must continue to live in peace. The election that we have ahead is not all about the APC’s candidate, myself, or winning the election, but about taking our rightful position as a state in the comity of states in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.’
Governor Bello added that the earlier leaders of all political parties, regional elders, followers, traditional rulers, citizens at home or abroad, as well as other stakeholders, realized the need to unite and shun politics of division, bitterness, ethnicity, and class differentiation for the betterment of the state, its people, and the future.
While he assured that Kogi State has so much to benefit under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the governor pointed out that on the top burner of the president’s agenda is the resuscitation of the Ajaokuta steel company, which would yield great benefits primarily for the state and the nation at large.
He urged that leaders and citizens must all come together, tell each other the truth, and fight our common adversaries in a bid to actualise the maximal benefits of the states, adding that as they have decided to join the New Direction family and unite the political families of former Governors of the state, they were already building a strong and formidable ally for the good of the state.
