THE crisis rocking the Kogi state house of assembly over change in leadership deepened on Tuesday as the house suspended its former chief whip, Friday Sani, for six months.
Sanni, representing Igalamela/Odolu state constituency, was suspended for allegedly dragging the name of the house in disrepute.
The suspension followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Ajaokuta state constituency, Abdulahi Bello,
The motion reads, “the attention of the House has been drawn to the anti legislative activities against the House by our Own Colleague, Elder (Dr) Friday Sani (Igalamela /Odolu Constituency) Who until recently sued the House to which he is a member for taking a decision in compliance with the House Rule 10.
“Recall, Distinguished Colleagues that his activities were recently questioned and consequently an Ad Hoc Committee set up to investigate his activities.
“Having overreacted himself and dragging the image of the House to disrepute, I move, therefore, that Elder (Dr) Friday Sani, be suspended from plenary sitting of the House pending the final outcome of the litigation in court”
Seconding the motion, Ahmed Mohammed said the motion was timely as Sani had always acted contrary to the dictates of the house.
Contributing to the motion, members said Sani had always acted against the will and interest of the house as such be suspended.
The speaker said the reaction of members was justified as it was not in prejudice of the suit.
It would be recalled that Sani had last Wednesday stormed out of the sitting of the assembly following his rejection as the minority leader of the house.
The defection of seven of the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) had necessitated the PDP to produce the minority leader, following which the party leadership nominated Sani to occupy the post.
But members rejected the proposal and appointed the member representing Ogori/Magongo, Godwin Osuyi as the new minority leader.
