The two kidnapped Catholic nuns of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mother of Christ, and a kidnapped Anambra High Court Judge have been released in Anambra State.
Tribune Online reports that the Reverend Sisters, Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli, were abducted about a week ago, while the judge, whose name has been withheld, was kidnapped on Saturday while entering his house in Awka South Local Government Area of the state.
A source close to the family confirmed that the judge was released on Sunday, barely 24 hours after his abduction, sparking widespread jubilation among sympathizers who have been thronging his residence since the incident.

In a statement titled “Notification of Release and Expression of Profound Gratitude,” Sr. Maria Sobenna Ikeotuonye, IHM Secretary General, announced the release of the Reverend Sisters.
The statement reads, “I bring to your notice in joy that our dear Sisters Vincentia Maria Nwankwo and Grace Mariette Okoli who were kidnapped in the evening of Tuesday, 7th January 2025, have been released unconditionally and in good health.
“We thank God and thank you all for your prayers and support all through these rough and uncertain days. May God forever be blessed through Mary our Mother.”
The release of the kidnapped victims has brought relief to the people of Anambra State, who have been living in fear of kidnappings and other violent crimes.
The state government has been urged to step up security measures to prevent future incidents.
