El-zakzaky, wife fly first class to India for medical treatment
Men of the Department of State Services (DSS) and their counterparts in the Nigeria Police, Monday laid siege on the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA), Abuja from 1:30 pm to about 3:30 pm as the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shiite, Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, left the country to India for medical check-up.
The embattled IMN leader came into the airport around 3pm via the Kaduna -Abuja rail service.
Confirming the arrival of the Shiite leader at the airport, a source from the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), who did not want her name mentioned in the print said, “the Shitte leader is here but he is under tight security.”
She stated further that “nobody is allowed to see him, he is in one of the rooms here at the International wing and he will be leaving for India at 6pm via Emirate air”
Refuting initial reports that El-Zakzaky had travelled earlier in the day via a chartered aircraft, an Immigration officer who spoke to Tribune Online under the condition of anonymity stated that the IMN leader was still at the airport under the guard of DSS.
He said El-Zakzaky was scheduled to leave the country around 6pm via Emirate Air.
According to him “nobody has seen the Shiite leader, we are aware that he is here at the airport, you can see the heavy presence of security personnel, but nobody is currently allowed to see him, but I can tell you El-Zakzaky is here at the airport and he will be travelling with Emirate air around 6pm,” he stated.
Tribune Online further spoke with another staff of FAAN who also spoke under the condition of anonymity, according to him, El-Zakzaky was wheeled into the airport under heavy security guard and was kept in the DSS office briefly before he was moved to the boarding hall through the escalator.
“As we speak, he is on board, he is being accompanied by four men of DSS alongside two women.”
The aircraft conveying the IMN leader, Emirate flight EK786 departed Abuja airport around 6:45pm en route Dubai to Mumbai.
