THE Jigawa State government said it has discovered and stopped illegal wage payment to the tune of over N768 million annually in the state Ministry of Health.
This was disclosed by the state Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Bala Ibrahim, while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the state executive council meeting presided over by Governor Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar.
The Information Commissioner noted that the state government had withdrawn unmerited allowances payment to administrative and financial staff in the ministry of health and general hospitals.
Alhaji Ibrahim explained that the allowances included hazard, shifting and call duty, saying “this is in line with present government’s efforts to reduce the cost on governance.”
“The state government got to know that the sum of N64 million is going to some staff in the ministry of health, who did not merit the allowances. That is why the government resolved to withdrawn all the allowances being enjoyed by all those staff in the ministry of health other than those whose duty is associated with medical department and treatment of diseases.”
