Journalist-turned-monarch, Ovie of Idjerhe kingdom, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State, His Majesty, Monday Arthur Whiskey, Udurhie I, has appealed to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa to intervene in some pressing issues bothering his kingdom.
The areas he wants Okowa to intervene in, according to him, include siting a higher institution of learning in the locality, skills acquisition centres, health facilities as well as speedy approval for rehabilitation of the King’s Palace Road in Otorho-Idjerhe.
Other requests border on spurring SEPLAT Energy Ltd with over 20 corked oil and gas wells, to bring them on stream, convert Idjerhe 17 contract staff into permanent staff as well as adhere to the 20 per cent local content policy of the Federal Government so that the kingdom can benefit from its natural resources.
HM Whiskey urged Senator Okowa to join his development drive at the grand finale of his one-year coronation anniversary held Sunday with a thanksgiving in Idjerhe otherwise known as Jesse.
He, however, commended the governor for the numerous appointments he bestowed on worthy sons and daughters of Idjerhe kingdom.
He also expressed gratitude to the state government for creating enabling environment for peace and harmony in Idjerhe the kingdom.
“Idjerhe Kingdom is a major player in the oil and gas industry as we are host to SEPLAT Energy with over 20 corked oil and gas wells.
“We appeal to your Excellency to use your good office to prevail on SEPLAT Energy to bring these corked oil wells on stream.
“We also plead with His Excellency to direct the oil company to convert Idjerhe 17 contract staff who are working with them into permanent positions and consistently adhere to the 20% local content policy of the Federal Government so that Idjerhe Kingdom can reap the fruits of her God-given resources,” he pleaded.
Earlier at the event, the Chairman of the anniversary planning committee, Chief Benson Okorodudu, lauded the traditional ruler for the uncommon display of exemplary leadership.
“The enthronement of His Majesty Obukohwo Monday Arthur Whiskey as King of Idjerhe kingdom has brought about peaceful coexistence amongst the 84 villages that make up Idjerhe Kingdom and our immediate neighbouring communities.
“His foresightedness has opened a floodgate of development to the kingdom in virtually all spheres of life,” he enthused.
