The Ijaw Youths Council (IYC) Worldwide has condemned in its entirety the assassination attempt of its National Treasurer, Comrade Timilaemi Ebifoubo.
The attack, which was carried out on the 6th of March, at his community, Amabulou in Ekeremor Local Government Area, also led to the death of his uncle, Mr Omolojo Etolo.
In a press statement issued by its National Spokesperson, Ebilade Ekerefe, the council frowned on the unfortunate incident and therefore called on the Nigerian Police and other relevant security agencies to swing into action by arresting and prosecuting the culprits .
Comrade Ekerefe in the statement noted that available information suggests that the criminal gang are now holding the entire community hostage.
This according to him has degenerated to looting and destruction of properties and the people of Amabulou now living in perpetual fear.
Ekerefe noted that there is now a complete breakdown of law and order in the community which should not be tolerated considering the rich cultural and traditional importance of the community which predates modern history in Ijaw land.
The council observed that if steps are not taken urgently to forestall normalcy in the community by relevant authorities, it could spiral and get out of control.
Council also called on the Bayelsa State government to intervene and bring normalcy back to the once peaceful community.
