A major contender for the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket in Ondo State, Dr Olusegun Abraham, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the alleged fraud perpetrated by some members of the party during the governorship primaries in the state.
Abraham, who made the call in Akure, the state capital, specifically called on the agency to prosecute those who might be found culpable in the alleged padding of the list of delegate meant for the election.
He explained that bringing the culprits to book would further boost the current anti-corruption crusade of the federal administration and sustain the integrity of APC leadership.
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to wade into the crisis trailing Ondo APC primaries, to ensure the party fielded a candidate that would win at the poll.
“This mandate is not just mine; it belongs to the entire people of the state. Those behind the padded delegates list must be prosecuted. We don’t want it to be extended to other states of the federation,” he said.
The contestant said he remained a candidate to beat in the election proper in the state, because his campaign was predicated on welfare for the people.
“I did not campaign like a typical politician, but with facts and figures that were themed around wealth creation, practical ways of developing the economy with the people’s direct involvement, rebuilding a crumbled value system, and so on.
“So, it is understandable why the people keep supporting my aspiration and why they keep clamouring for the reclamation of the mandate,,” he said.
Abraham, who called for the resignation of the national chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, described Oyegun’s action over the result of the controversial party primaries as shocking and undemocratic.
He warned of an impending doom for APC in the November 26 election if the result of the outcome of the primaries was not reversed.
“If the APC sticks to the undemocratic Akeredolu option, the party will lose, because the people are apathetic towards his candidacy,” he said.
Accordingly, Abraham urged the president to ensure that the anomaly, which happened during the primaries, was corrected to prevent the downfall of the party.
