…rehabilitate 1,074 inner roads, secure $22m FDI for fibre installations
The Lagos State Government on Monday said it has delivered 61 roads of 56.52km with five bridges in the last year while increasing the pace of work on 147 other roads and bridge projects currently ongoing in different parts of the state as part of efforts to enhance connectivity and ease of movement.
Besides, it disclosed that the Public Works Corporation (PWC) had continued with the year-round maintenance, using a wide range of intervention methods such as sectional repairs, overlay works, and pothole patching, carrying out various interventions on 1074 roads of 78.42 km and 218 drainage channels spanning 462km across the state.
Special Adviser (SA) to the Governor on Infrastructure, Engr. Olufemi Daramola made this known Monday at the Ministerial Press Briefing to commemorate the Second Year of the 2nd Term of the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, which took place at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, assuring that the Sanwo-Olu-led administration would continue to deliver sustainable and impactful infrastructure to the people of Lagos State.
Daramola highlighted that the Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance Agency (LASIMRA) had, in the same vein, also made a significant boost in the state’s investment in Fibre Duct Expansion, with an additional 2,700 km of installations planned, building on 3,000km completed by WTES, to enhance connectivity while also securing a commitment of $22 million in foreign direct investment for quality fiber installations in the state.
The governor’s aide expressed delight at some of the transformative infrastructural projects delivered in Lagos, saying that despite global and national economic challenges, particularly from May 2024 into 2025, the time of infrastructure delivery had remained steady.
He noted that since December 2024, the state had commissioned 33 roads, saying that numerous others remained actively under construction or rehabilitation to reflect an unwavering commitment to infrastructure renewal and inclusive development.
“From the inception of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and Dr. Kadri Obafemi Hamzat-led administration, the ‘THEMES and THEMES+ Agenda’ has served as a blueprint and a call to transformative action.
“Under the pillar ‘T’—Traffic Management and Transportation—the Office of Infrastructure has taken bold and strategic steps to improve road connectivity, expand access, and elevate infrastructure delivery standards,” he said.
Daramola listed the commissioned road projects to include the reconstruction of the damaged pedestrian bridge at Estate Gate, Alapere, Ketu; construction of the Abiola-Onijemo Link Road with a bridge in Ifako-Ijaiye LGA; construction of several roads in Ikoyi, including Oyinkan Abayomi Drive, Macpherson Avenue, and Femi Okunnu Road; Ilabere, Ilu, and Inupa roads in Victoria Island; and the construction of the Babafemi Dada network of roads, including Yinka Folarin, Jamiu Lawal, and Shalom Academy Roads, with a bridge in the Alimosho area of the state.
According to him, others include rehabilitation of Oba Dosumu Street, Sobo Arobiodu Street, Oduduwa Way and Oduduwa Crescent, and Sasegbọn Street all in Ikeja GRA, Ikeja LGA; rehabilitation of St Finbarrs College Road, Iwaya Road and Sand Zero streets in Lagos Mainland of Somolu, and Kosofe LGAs.

The governor’s aide said some road projects that were completed and awaiting commissioning include Aradagun-Mosafejo-Ilado-Imeke Road, Hospital Road (Phase II), Samuel Ekundayo Road, and Toga Road in Badagry LGA, Badagry; Babajide Sanwo-Olu Road (Dopemu Road), Abaranje Road, Magbon-Alade Township Roads, Ibeju-Lekki, Arowojobe Link Bridge, and Approach Road at Mende Maryland.
According to Daramola, some of the ongoing roads include the Ojota–Opebi Link Bridge and the Opebi Link Bridge and Approach Roads, describing such as an iconic project that traverses from the Opebi end through the swamp/valley area to link Ojota Road/Odo Iya-Alaro Bridge, Maryland, and several other roads within the environs.
He said the construction of the bridge was strategically located and provides connectivity as part of the THEMES (+) Agenda and policy thrust of Governor Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
Engr. Daramola assured that Governor Sanwo-Olu had promised to continue the delivery of life-impacting road infrastructure projects until the last day in office, adding that all ongoing projects would be completed before the expiration of the tenure of the administration.
He said the government had stayed on course and made tangible progress, deepening investments in infrastructure that transform lives, connect communities, and drive economic growth.
