At an event organised by Future Energy, an international organisation at the Eko Hotel last week, experts and researchers in Nigeria have concluded that for future energy to be feasible in the country, the role of power system architects and engineers should not be underestimated.
Speaking on the consequences of inadequate and epileptic power supply in Nigeria on the environment in particular and economic development in general, a London-based chartered power system engineer, Idowu Oyebanjo, was of the conviction that over-dependence on generator, apart from hazards posed on human health, had serious effects on the general environment.
The gathering had in attendance Messrs Ato Lyasi, a Senior Director, Power African Finance Corporation, Darlington Ubek, CEO, Green Echo, South Africa, Deji Soetan of Block Chain Asset Management, Nigeria, and Ebipere Clark, the Acting Special Assistant (Energy) to the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, among others. They all spoke passionately on the issue.
To address the issue, emphasis was placed on the need for the country to have efficient, affordable and optimal supply energy industry in nearest future, government should be ready to comply with the recommendation of the Future Energy Committee, especially, involvement of power architects system.
“Involvement of power architect system in the energy sector is the only antidote to the perennial power failures in Nigeria. This is the combination of all professionals and stakeholders in the sector, whose activities will be coordinated and supervised by system engineer,” they reasoned.
