The Chairman of Ikenne Local Government Area of Ogun State, Mr Rotimi Akinsanya, has assured that the recently inaugurated economic development committee tagged: “Ikenne Local Government Economic Development Committee”, will unlock potentialities in industrial and agricultural sectors in the local government and the state at large.
Akinsanya made the remark during the inauguration of the committee at the conference room of the council secretariat.
He said the initiative was part of the local government’s efforts to utilise its resources in agro-industrial development and infrastructural development, employment generation as well as the growth and sustainability of small scale businesses.
“It is time Nigerians fully embraced industrial and agricultural sectors since the oil boom is over. This is the time for us as a nation to come back to reality and focus on mechanised agriculture, animal/poultry husbandry and infrastructural development, which have potentiality of turning around our present predicament,” he said.
The inauguration was graced by the representative of the state Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Ronke Sokefun; Dr Adeleke Oyende, Remo Central Local Government Area Chairman, Oluseyi Odumuyiwa; former Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Mr Segun Odubela; members of the legislative council, heads of departments, among others.
On his part, the chairman of the committee, Colonel Dele Oyefuga, observed that the initiative was unique and noble both in the local government and the state as a whole.
He added: “We have to look inwards to make use of our resources and lands and we can only achieve this through a solid orientation to explore opportunities in generating wealth, even within our locality.”
