IITA’s ENABLE-TAAT Open Day holds today

THE International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) through its Youth in Agribusiness office would today hold the Empowering Novel Agribusiness Led Employment, one of the compacts of Technologies for African Agricultural Transformation (ENABLE-TAAT).

The event is scheduled to hold at the Oyo State-IITA Youth Agribusiness Park Centre, Awe, Oyo State.

The event will feature display and sale of quality planting materials, lectures and discussions on new agricultural technologies and farming systems, exhibition and sale of various agricultural products, business models and market linkages and a tour around the revitalised Oyo State-IITA Youth Agribusiness Park Centre, Awe.

ENABLE-TAAT is the youth enabler within the larger TAAT programme funded by African Development Bank (AfDB). The compact is being implemented through the Youth in Agribusiness office of IITA (IYA).

One of its key objectives is to operate technology and innovation centers for young people on specific commodity value chains through a mechanism called “Food Basket Outreach.” The outreach is an advocacy tool which provides the opportunity for farmers of all ages, youth in agribusiness, partnering groups and organizations as well as agricultural experts and mentors to rub minds on new technologies that can aid the farming system and agribusiness.

To achieve this, ENABLE-TAAT is leveraging on the collaboration between the Oyo state government and IITA, which has led to the rejuvenation of the Oyo State-IITA Youth Agribusiness Park Center (Agri-Park), Awe. The Open Day event will hold at the centre, with rural farmers and youth in attendance.

The objectives of the ENABLE-TAAT Open Day are to showcase the strength of the youth enablers at Agri-Park, Awe, to display the achievements of TAAT 1 through all TAAT compacts represented, to facilitate interaction between rural farmers and science experts from different TAAT compacts and banks representatives as well as exhibition and sale of quality agricultural products.

Personnel expected to grace the ENABLE-TAAT Open Day include: IITA Director General and the Senior Management Team of IITA, Oyo State Agribusiness Development Agency (OYSADA), representatives of African Development Bank, representatives of collaborating banks, IITA Youth-in-Agribusiness office, IITA Corps members, farmers and youth, indigenes of Awe, other interested people.

It is expected that at the end of the ENABLE-TAAT Open Day, ENABLE-TAAT is presented as good partner in engaging youths and farmers, IITA, other TAAT compacts, IYA, Banks, collaborating partners among others engage the Agri-Park as selling point for technologies, market linkages and access to loans, youths and rural farmers are motivated and convinced to link with the Youth compact for transforming their activities and Agri-park, Awe, becomes a place to learn agricultural.
