Oyo State House of Assembly has passed the Bill for the establishment of the Oyo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora, through its second reading.
The Bill scaled the hurdle during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi.
The proposed legislation seeks to provide the legal framework for the establishment and operation of the Oyo State University of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora.
The Bill was jointly sponsored by the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Adebo Edward Ogundoyin, and the member representing Ibarapa Central/North State Constituency, Hon. Peter Ojedokun.
If established, the university is expected to expand access to tertiary education while promoting agricultural education, research, technological innovation and human capital development, particularly in Ibarapa and other parts of Oyo State.
Following its passage through second reading, the House referred the Bill to the Committee on Education (Tertiary Institutions, Science and Technology) for detailed consideration.
The committee is expected to scrutinise the provisions of the proposed law, consult relevant stakeholders where necessary, and submit its report to the House ahead of the Bill’s consideration at third reading and final passage.
