ICT expert says utilisation of social resources will bring prosperity

Published by

Mr Adeniji Kabir, an ICT expert on Tuesday said the utilisation of social resources through the internet would enhance citizens’ economic prosperity and bring the country out of recession.

Kabir, who is the Executive Director, Adeson Communications, an internet training outfit made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

He said that the internet had created platforms for people to have means of livelihood by just engaging the many social resources available on it.

“The effective use of the internet today has made even those that could have found it hard to be employed to become economically engaged by making use of platforms like the Facebook, Instagram, Twitter to become economically sound.

“Look at someone like Linda Ikeji, before the advent of the internet you cannot imagine people just talking about themselves, someone or even events and becoming millionaires.

“But you can see today that so many people apart from her are really making it all over the world by using their phones or computers to sell products that they would have had to carry around with all the inconveniences attached to it.

“So, engaging the various platforms on the internet is really a boost to citizens’ economic prosperity, especially the youths,’’ he said.

Kabir said that the resources of the social media platform also  brought about companies like Jumia, Konga and other online marketers who had in turn become big employers of labour.

He said that many people now make their purchases online, while others were making a lot of money selling their products and ideas just by uploading them on the internet.

He however criticised the negative use of the social resources of the internet by some youths, saying, “this it is putting the country in bad light among nations of the world.’’

The expert noted that though cybercrime was a global concern, Nigerian youths should take advantage of social resources on the internet to make decent money.

According to him, youths should engage the internet positively to create wealth and gain economic prosperity to pull the country out of the recession.
