The 57th president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Comfort Eyitayo has commended the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) for the positive role they have played in the development of the accounting profession.
Eyitayo gave this admonition during the annual dinner of the SWAN, which took place at Premier Hotel, Ibadan over the weekend. She noted that the association has played a significant role in the development of the accounting profession and humanity as a whole.
The ICAN president further called on SWAN not to relent in their efforts but to continue contributing their quota towards the development of the accounting profession, adding that ICAN will soon come calling on their support to achieve more projects it has set out to accomplish.
“One of the major programmes of this year presidential year is to establish an entrepreneurship centre and empowerment fund to ensure we produce chartered accountants who would not be merely job seekers but will also be job creators.
“The fundraising for the centre will be conducted soon, and we will appeal to all of you to contribute generously towards this venture. I’m using this opportunity to inform SWAN Ibadan district chapter to give us all necessary resources to support this initiative,” she added.
Expressing her excitement with the success of the programme, Salome Olabimpe Ajayi, the current chairperson of the Ibadan chapter of SWAN remarked that women are the backbone of society and SWAN was focused on championing the growth of women in the accounting profession.
Noting that event was organized as a means for members to mingle and interact, Ajayi revealed that women are great leaders because studies and experience have shown that they bring unique perspectives from different emotional, cultural, and structural dimensions to drive effective solutions to society’s challenges.
She noted that SWAN Ibadan district chapter will continue to give its best to the purpose and objective of SWAN, saying “I’ll not relent to give my best to ensure the mission of this association is achieved.”
Speaking with Tribune Online, Bisi Adewale expressed delight with the event. She noted that the gathering will go a long way in boosting the morale of members aiding them to do more.
She also supported the notion that women are more capable than men, saying “women are better at balancing professional and personal leadership skills. They exhibit high emotional intelligence, often flexible and lead by example as well as possesses essential qualities needed in today’s Nigeria.”
