Ibadan indigenes in Diaspora donate block of classrooms to Oyo school

Published by

The Ibadan Descendant Union, New Jersey chapter, United States of America, handed over a block of four classrooms at Progressives Primary School, Aladorin, Isale Osi, Ibadan, Oyo State, which it renovated to the school management.

The gesture, according to the national president of the group, Iyiola Abiola, was in supporting the state government, in its own little way, to revamp infrastructure across schools in the state.

He enjoined the teachers to prioritise the maintenance of the structure for it to serve the community for generations to come.

Chairman of the occasion, Isiaka Olagunju, who did the ceremonial cutting of tape for the building, said such gestures are commendable, as there was an important need for people to give back to their alma mater.

The project coordinator, Musibau Yusuf, in his remarks, said the renovation at Progressives Primary School, Aladorin, was one of seven schools that the Ibadan Descendant Union planned to renovate across Oyo State.

He added that the group had in the past fixed 25 boreholes and two primary health centres in the state.

The duo of the Chairman, Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Mr Raji Oladimeji, and Education Secretary, Ibadan South West Local Government Area, Mrs Morenike Adenike, stressed that everyone must contribute their quota to school development efforts, noting that it was a huge task for the government to attend to its over 3,000 primary and secondary schools in the state.

Commending the gesture, head teacher of the school, Mrs Adio Adebukola, demanded more alumni, and well-meaning individuals to complement government efforts in fixing dilapidated infrastructure across schools in the state.
