GOVERNOR-ELECT of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, has assured the people of the state that he will not disappoint them when he assumes the governorship of the state, in October.
Dr Fayemi gave the assurance on Wednesday after he received the certificate of return as the winner of the governorship election held in the state last Saturday, from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
At the ceremony held at the secretariat of INEC in Ado Ekiti, the state capital, Fayemi promised not to disappoint the people of the state, saying “Ekiti people will see the benefit of good governance by the grace of God as from October 16.”
The governor-elect noted that “for INEC, the work has just ended and for us, the work has just started. We have a responsibility not to disappoint our people.”
He lauded INEC for the conduct of the election he described as “excellent job”, saying the election which he won was “seamless, free, fair, credible and violence-free” contrary to the contention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) which came second in the polls.
He also commended the various security agencies for providing security back-up, saying this gave the Ekiti electorate the confidence to come out and exercise their franchise.
Fayemi also thanked the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the National Chairman, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, and the state executive committee of the party led by the Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe.

Speaking on the occasion, the INEC National Commissioner in charge of Oyo, Ekiti and Osun states, Prince Solomon Adedeji Soyebi, who presented Fayemi with the certificate, noted that the presentation formally marked the end of the process of the Ekiti governorship election.
Soyebi described Ekiti as “a homogenous state”, and called on the people of the state to continue being one another’s brother’s keepers.
The INEC chief said: “Today marks the end of the election in Ekiti State on the part of the commission, which is the presentation of Certificates of Return to the governor-elect and the deputy governor-elect.
“If there are issues arising from the election, there is another arm of government that will take care of that. This is another important day in the history of the state.
“On behalf of the commission, I congratulate everybody. Ekiti has pointed the way forward in conducting elections in Nigeria.”
The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Professor AbdulGaniy Raji, in his remarks, expressed delight that the election was held despite the tension that preceded it.
Professor Raji commended the people of the state for “the maturity displayed before during and after the election”, reiterating that the election was a success.
According to him, Ekiti is moving higher with the conduct of the election, saying he was hopeful that futures elections that would be conducted in the state would be equally successful.
Fayemi’s running mate, who is also the Deputy Governor-elect Chief Bisi Egbeyemi, also received his Certificate of Return on the occasion.
