THE administrator of Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Taofiq Isa, said he was never arrested by the police over an alleged attack on the senator representing Kogi West senatorial district, Dino Melaye.
Isa, who stated this, on Wednesday evening, at the state secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), in Lokoja, added that the report of his arrest was a surprise.
The administrator, who doubles as the state chairman of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), said the news of his arrest emanated from those bent on tarnishing his image.
He, however, disclosed that he was only invited by the state command of the Nigeria Police, on Tuesday, where he had discussions with the police commissioner.
He also added that he made statements to the police in order to clear himself of the allegations levelled against him by Melaye.
Isa stated further that the news of his arrest by police from the Force Headquarters was a ruse as he was never picked up or taken to Abuja as reported in the media.
The administrator, who came to the NUJ secretariat at about 10.30pm, said as the chief security officer of the local government, his main preoccupation was the security of lives and property of the people in the council.
He said he had already constituted a 10-man panel to look into the murder claim by the senator, adding that the commissioner of police in the state, Wilson Inalegwu, had also ordered investigation into the claim.
The residence of the senator in his country home, Ayetoro Gbede, was on Saturday, allegedly attacked by unknown gunmen who rained gunshots on the building.
Melaye, it was learnt, had accused Isah as the mastermind of the attack with the local government.
