Abimbola Fashola, wife of former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, has revealed how she handled rumours that her husband had another family while in office, saying her calm approach and open communication helped her navigate the allegations.
Speaking on the Morayo Afolabi Show, the former First Lady recounted that she first heard about the claim from her sisters, who alleged that Babatunde Fashola maintained a separate family in MagodoLagos: Court dismisses Magodo residents’ lawsuit and frequently visited the area.
“I heard a story from my sisters. They said your husband has another family in Magodo. I said, ‘Ah, my husband. Okay, not to worry,’ because the relationship we share, there’s nothing we don’t say to one another. It’s all about communication,” she said.
She explained that when she hears such rumours, she often waits for guidance before taking any action. “Most times, when I hear things like that, I wait for the Holy Spirit to direct me. So I said, ‘Come, they say you have another family in Magodo, that you are always going there every day.’”
Her husband, she said, was taken aback by the allegation. “He said, ‘Magodo? How many times have I been to Magodo? Maybe during campaign.’ It was clear to me that it was just a story,” she added.
Abimbola Fashola also addressed the perception that her husband is always calm and never gets angry. She said, “You know, when God gives you an assignment, he supports you with it. That idea that he never gets angry is a lie.” She added that while he is generally composed, “he is human, like anyone else, and can get angry when the situation calls for it.”
Her approach, she emphasised, was guided by faith and trust in the strength of their relationship. “Because the relationship we share, there’s nothing we can’t discuss openly,” she said.
