Herbalist with fake coronavirus drugs discovered in Anambra

The Special Adviser to Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state on indigenous medicine practice, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim, has said that a native doctor with fake Coronavirus drugs has been discovered in the state.

Dr Ibezim told newsmen at the weekend in Awka, that the said traditional medicine man had gone around claiming that he had found a cure for Coronavirus disease.

The governor’s aide said, “We got the news that there is a herbal practitioner who discovered a cure for Covid19. On arrival, I saw some concoctions and others. We got his consent and picked some of the drugs for research.” He, however, pointed out that at the moment there was no indigenous medicine that had a cure for viral diseases such as Coronavirus, Lassa Fever and others.

Ibezim explained further that his office was working round the clock to regulate indigenous medicine practice in the state, noting that most of the herbal medicine practitioners mixed some orthodox medicine with herbs in a bid to produce drugs for Coronavirus but when such drugs were subjected to laboratory testing, it proved impotent and ineffective.

Although he acknowledged that the government was on red alert to contain any public health emergencies, he stressed that viral infections have no definite cure.

He said one of the ways to prevent the escalation of viral diseases was through self-quarantine and maintaining a clean healthy environment.

Ibezim stated that the country could fight any viral infections the same way it fought the Ebola virus to a standstill. He said it’s a collective responsibility and all hands must be on deck in the fight against Covid19 and other terminal infections.
