Help enhance local talents, improve pool of Nigerian CEOs, Pioneer CIPM boss charges multinationals

THE pioneer President of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM) of Nigeria,  Dr. Michael Omolayole, has charged companies, especially multinationals, operating in Nigeria, to have the interests of Nigeria and Nigerians, as their primary objective of doing business in the country.

Omolayole, who was speaking at the 40th Omolayole Lecture Series (OML), held in Lagos, recently, tasked such businesses to develop Nigerians to the highest level, irrespective of their gender,  to enable them reach the post of chief executives.

The former Managing Director of Lever Brothers Nigeria added that this could be achieved by looking for ‘virtuous’ Nigerians, with the highest integrity, and helping increase the pool of such personalities, within the nation’s economic space.

He faulted the claims of paucity of highly capable Nigerians, by some companies, describing such claims as not genuine; since some companies had deviced a way of discovering such talents and giving them a chance.

“Some companies succeed in finding and developing them, those that claim they are unable to do so should be ashamed of themselves.

“However, we will continue to encourage and celebrate those who have done so,” Omolayole stated.

Describing the theme of the lecture: “Building Resilience in Current Times”, as apt, the management expert urged Nigerians to build resilience through a ‘food first philosophy’, to enable them to weather the present economic storm in the country.

He also described the theme as resonating with the spirit and power of optimism and positive thinking, and the belief in a better tomorrow.
