Gunmen kidnap former DSS boss in Benue

Suspected kidnappers who were fully armed have kidnapped a retired officer of the Department of State Security (DSS), Peter Unogwu aka Naraguta in Benue State.

The incident, according to source happened around 5.pm on Wednesday when the victim was said to be returning from Otukpo and heading to Igumale.

The local who identified himself as Agbo said that the retired DSS man was approaching his destination when some armed men stopped him at the site of the proposed Igumale cement factory and whisked him away.

Agbo stated that the suspected kidnappers are yet to open contact with the family.

He expressed deep concern on the porous security in Igumale, headquarters of Ado local government in recent times.

According to him, the abduction of the former DSS officer is coming barely a month a businessman was kidnapped in the area and made to cough out millions of naira before he could be released by his abductors.

Agbo called on security agencies to intervene in the security challenges confronting Igumale community, saying the local government headquarters is no longer safe for them as kidnapping had become a routine.

Confirming the abduction,  the spokesperson for Benue State Police  Command, DSP Catherine Anene said that police were on the trail of the kidnappers.

“The former DSS man was kidnapped yesterday (Wednesday) our men are already trailing the kidnappers,” she said.
