Govs reject 30-year repayment plan for N614bn bailout fund
State governors have rejected the 30-year repayment plan for the N614 billion budget support facility obtained from the federal government.
Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Zainab Ahmed, disclosed this while briefing State House correspondents on the outcome of the National Economic Council (NEC) meeting presided over by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential villa Abuja on Tuesday.
She said the federal government has commenced the deduction of the money from the accounts of beneficiary states at the rate of N252monthly.
Based on the complaint of the governors, according to her, the federal government had decided to extend the repayment period from 20 to 30’years, which reduced the monthly deduction to N162 million.
She said state chief executives are still not satisfied with it, adding that based on their rejection, the Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning, and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will engage the governors to revise the conditions of repayment.
