Gov Yusuf charges newly-appointed Kano High Court, Sharia Justices on fairness

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has charged the newly appointed State High Court Justices and four Sharia Court of Appeal Khadis to  be fair and just in discharge of their duties, saying justice is not a privilege preserved for a few, but a right for all.

With the swearing of High court justice, the Governor has set the record of appointing five female justices out of the nine appointed for the first time in the state while also setting another record of appointing all the Khadis that are not just learned in the Sharia but are also law graduates in order to enhance professionalism.

Yusuf made the assertion on Friday, while delivering his address at the end of the oath taking ceremony of the newly-appointed Justices and Khadis in Kano on Friday.

He called on them on the need to live up to the oaths they have taken while appealing to them to be fair to all and apply justice and equity to all manner of people.

“It is a responsibility that demands not only legal expertise but also profound understanding, sympathy and commitment to preserving the fundamental principles upon which our legal system is built.  

“It is essential that we create an enabling environment for our judiciary and the legal system which must be a creation of hope by ensuring that justice is not a privilege preserved for the few but a right accessible to all,” Gov Yusuf stated. 

“We have ensured infrastructural provisions and welfare needs to ease the performance and duties as well as responsibilities of all our judicial officers” the Governor stated while appealing to them to ensure that they meet the expectations of the people.

Meanwhile, those who took the oath of office as state High Court Justices include: Fatima Adamu, Hauwa Lawal, Musa Ahmad, Musa Dahuru Muhammad and Farida Rabiu.

Others are; Aisha Mahmud, Halima Nasir, Adam Abdullahi and Haneef Sanusi Yusuf. 

More so, those who took oath of office as Khadis of Sharia Appeal Courts are Muhammad A. Khademi, Salisu Ahmad Isah, Isah Idris Sa’id and Muhammad Kani.
