The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed the state Ministry of Education to begin the process of absorbing no fewer than 4,000 teaching casual staff into full-fledged permanent teaching staff in the state.
He gave the directives to the ministry in collaboration with the state Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Kano while flagging off the second phase distribution of instructional materials for Basic and post-basic Schools and other educational electronic gadgets, as well as laboratory equipment.
The casual staff inherited from the immediate past administration were on a contract basis under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA).
Gov Yusuf said, “This approval is in addition to the many BESDA groups who were employed last year.”
He added that “I have every confidence in you, I believe in your loyalty, I believe in your commitment towards the welfare of our children wherever they are.”
Aside from that directive, Governor Yusuf also approved N200 million as a soft loan for teachers across the 44 local governments of the state.
This, he noted, was aimed at supporting the teaching staff economically, given their contributions to society.
However, on the occasion, Governor Yusuf distributed about 1.6 million science and technology textbooks, including computer science, among others.
He said, “We are also distributing exercise books, pencils, sharpeners, rulers, and whiteboard markers, amounting to over 700,000.
According to him, “We are also providing school records, which include the attendance register, admissions register, time book, and staff movement book.”
Also, among the materials distributed are sporting kits such as sports wear, football items, and mattresses.
He said, “We are also distributing 2,600 pieces of computers and laboratory equipment for over 200 selected senior secondary schools, as well as providing over one hundred inverters and over 36 solar panels for each school.”
The Governor emphasised that the second phase of the distribution of instructional materials is one of many steps taken by his administration to improve schools and empower students in Kano State.
Governor Yusuf expressed a commitment to invest in teacher training, school infrastructure, and innovative programs in providing exceptional education to children in Kano state.
“We are shaping the young minds for the future, and we must therefore support them with the necessary materials at our disposal.”
