Lead City University, Ibadan, has conferred various postgraduate degrees on the Chief Press Secretary to the Oyo State Governor, Olanrewaju Suleiman, and 600 other graduating students.
Olanrewaju, who earned a doctorate degree in mass communication and media technology, is among the 129 doctorate degree awardees of the institution.
A total of 289 graduates were awarded master’s degrees in various disciplines; 139 students received postgraduate diplomas; 42 were conferred with professional master’s degrees; and two were awarded Master of Philosophy degrees.
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, was conferred with a Doctor of Science in Public Administration (Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contributions to the upliftment of Yoruba tradition.
According to the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. K.A. Aderemi, the conferment followed a resolution of the Senate and Council of the institution and was part of the activities for the 17th Convocation Ceremony of 2024.
The Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Ogunmola, in his address, urged the graduating students to see themselves as navigators of change, embrace adversity and uncertainty, and view challenges as opportunities for growth and development.
He stated that the ability of graduates to adapt amid challenges would be critical in achieving success and fostering resilience, not only within themselves but also among the teams they will build.
“Today marks a significant transition. Leadership transcends mere authority or titles. It embodies the profound ability to inspire, empower, and motivate others towards a shared vision.
“Effective leaders are defined not by their power but by their capacity to listen, learn, empathise, and connect with those they lead. A true leader sets a direction, creates a vision, and executes strategies to actualise that vision.”
In his address, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Adeyemi, described the convocation as a milestone reflecting not only the dedication of the students but also the support of their families and the commitment of faculty staff.
He highlighted the remarkable accomplishments of the students in their respective fields of study and research over the past year, showcasing the institution’s commitment to intellectual advancement and innovation.
He said, “Over the years, Lead City University has been at the forefront of developing high-quality human capital, contributing significantly to the growth of our great nation and the world.
“This year’s convocation is particularly special as it reflects the growth and impact of our institution in shaping the future of education, innovation, and leadership.”
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, represented by his Aremo, Prince Sunmbo Olakulehin, lauded Lead City University for providing quality education, particularly to students of Ibadan origin.
He described the institution as a pacesetter, praising its proprietor, Prof. Jide Owoeye, as an educationist par excellence.
