THE Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Muhammadu Badaru Abubakar has decried the increase of child kidnapping in recent times in the state.
This was contained in a press statement issued and made available to Tribune Online in Dutse the state capital by the Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Publicity, Alhaji Habibu Nuhu Kila.
The governor asked parents and guardians to take charge of the security of their children and be extra careful on the movement of the children and wards in the state.
The governor in the statement said, “Jigawa State government has advised parents in the state to maintain a high level of vigilance in monitoring the movements of their wards.”
According to the governor, “The advice became necessary as a result of some reported cases of missing children in some local government areas of the state.”
The statement stated further that “Consequently, the government is conscious of the security and wellbeing of its citizens in the state and will continue to provide maximum protection to the people.”
Alhaji Babukar maintained that “In this regard, suspicious moments of unknown people within the community should be reported to the nearest security agencies.”
He added that “The government assured that all relevant government organs and other stakeholders are working assiduously to safeguard the lives and properties of the people of Jigawa State.”
When contacted the Jigawa State police command said “the state government did not communicate to the police over the matter.”
Speaking to Tribune Online, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) ASP Lawan Shisu said, “I only saw one report of a missing child this morning.”
ASP Shisu maintained that “I travelled, I came back. But I found nothing like that on my table. Yes, it is good to call on parents to take care of their children. But I will find out tomorrow, Thursday, and get back to you.”
